New Feature - Item Decay
This week, we have begun expanding on the mechanic of eating items. We decided to pursue the idea of items breaking down because of the digestive fluids inside your stomach.
- Item Destruction: Once the player has eaten an item, digestive fluids will make it start to decay. Some items may be entirely destroyed, so the player must act fast once they start eating.
- Item Transformation: Some items won’t just disappear but instead decay into another item, offering a more interesting gameplay mechanic. For example, a human may digest into a SKULL 💀
Inventory UI
We have begun adding some simple UI to show what the player has in their inventory, as well as give a visual indication of how long is left until an item will decay.
Concept Art - Future Assets
This week, our art team has been designing new assets to flesh out our levels, as well as modelling some of the previously designed assets.
Bug Fixes
- Prevented the player from double jumping, earlier player could double jump if space was held down.
- Prevented the player from sticking to walls, when the player hugs a wall they slide down instead of sticking to it.
Challenges and Obstacles
- Ensuring the decay works regardless of the object’s state. If it decays inside the player’s stomach, that needs to be handled.
